Microfinancing for women to gain financial independence in developing nations.
Problem
I hate to use this saying as a vegan, but this is the crux of it: "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime".
While charity is good, it only goes so far - with impact investment, we can actually allow women in developing nations, who do not have access to the same opportunities, to grow! There are indeed many operational issues to be solved (ex. vetting of genuine opportunities, solving moral hazard, implementation via NGOs etc.) but at least we are starting somewhere!
Why it matters
Microfinance was meant to lift women out of poverty — but predatory interest rates (often 25–40%) trap the very people it's meant to help. High risk premiums create adverse selection: only desperate borrowers accept punishing rates, defaults rise, and rates climb further. The spiral never ends.
On-chain stablecoins make borderless, transparent micro-lending finally viable. A generation of impact investors wants returns and purpose. And 1 billion women globally still lack access to affordable credit.
